Access to affordable dental care just got easier. The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP), a landmark federal initiative, is expanding nationwide—so here’s a guide to help you understand what’s happening, who qualifies, and how to apply.


What Is the Canadian Dental Care Plan?

Launched in phases, the Canadian Dental Care Plan aims to reduce financial barriers to essential oral health services for uninsured Canadians. It follows earlier temporary dental benefits and now targets up to 9 million people—including children, seniors, individuals with disabilities, and adults aged 18–64 who lack dental insurance.

Who Can Apply and When?

What Dental Services Are Covered?

What’s Not Covered?

CDCP is focused on medically necessary, functional dental care—not cosmetic or elective procedures. Some exclusions include:
